BHS (Automated Baggage Handling System) System

Felipe Ángeles International Airport has a Baggage Handling System (BHS) which is used during baggage departure and arrival operations.

The journey begins in the check-in bays that are located on the third level of the terminal building, the baggage is moved safely by means of conveyor belts

On the second level of the terminal building, during the transfer of baggage, the bags go through inspection teams which by means of X-rays make a check inside the baggage. suitcases to verify that they do not carry prohibited objects such as firearms, sharp objects, flammable liquids, etc. The above in order to provide security at all times to the facilities, users and workers of the airport.

Finally, on the ground floor, the luggage arrives at the departure carousels, national and international, where they are finally collected by the airline and entered inside the aircraft where the user will travel.

In the case of arrivals, the suitcases are unloaded and transported to the arrival lines where the luggage is transferred by means of belts until it reaches the claim carousels (national and international) where the user can collect their luggage.

There are:

  • 8 km of distance distributed in 4 levels (-4.0, 0.00, +5.25 and +10.50)
  • 12 Output carousels
  • Baggage claim: 7 islands (4 in international area and 3 in domestic)
  • 5 Check-in bays

28 airways located in 14 pre-bridges

Advantages of the BHS

  • Luggage transfer of 5260 suitcases per hour with a length of 8 kilometers of conveyors. 
  • 3 levels of inspection for explosives detection.  
  • Inspection Levels 1 based on CTX-9800 CTX-9800 X-ray machines. "The baggage inspection equipment has the capacity of 1800 bags per hour"; with the interaction of the operators. Decision-based inspection regarding the density of the material that is visualized through equipment according to different colors, the first inspection goes through X-ray (3D) equipment. 
  • Inspection level 2 is carried out by AVSEC personnel with the support of an X-ray machine, the inspection is carried out in more detail.  
  • At inspection level 3, a manual inspection is carried out, verifying the contents of the suitcase with highly trained and competent personnel
  • It is a redundant and versatile system that offers different ways to transfer luggage and arrive at the final destination, which is the aircraft. 
  • There is an early storage system (EBS) with an estimated time of 4 hours, in which the user checks in advance and the system itself self-directs the baggage at the scheduled time of the flight. 
  • In case of non-reading and loss of label, a manual label reading system is available.
